I am very delighted with the way my latest tapestry design, ‘Monolithic’, was showcased at the Dutch Interior / Urban Cotton fair stand during Maison & Objet in Paris.

A beautiful way to demonstrate the interiors where this design truly shines.

As the curator and designer of ‘Makersmomenten,’ I had the privilege of blending the works of Kunstgarage Franx-affiliated artists with innovative designs from young creators and academy graduates for the second time. The powerful synergy between creative arts and crafts strengthened each other, resulting in a cohesive showcase. The rewarding journey of combining over 50 artists’ work, recent graduates, and design brands in the exhibition and XL Maker’s Shop has been impactful. This successful collaboration with Kunstgarage Franx has opened possibilities for future expansions.

The Future is Luminous – Paris Design Week 7-16 September 2023

The Atelier Néerlandais (part of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands) invited me to show my work in Paris as part of a group exhibition on what Dutch Design has to offer in terms of both attractive and sustainable design. The Paris Design Week takes place in parallel with the Maison & Objet trade fair.

Exhibition at Masterly – The Dutch in Milano 18-23 April 2023

During the Salone del Mobile the Dutch pavilion presents again the best design and artisan craftmanship from the Netherlands. This time the event takes place at the Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, in the centre of Milan. I am very proud that my work is once again part of this prestigious show.

During an incredibly exciting trip to Cairo, together with another Dutch designer Zonia van Uden, I had the opportunity in February 2023 to design modern interior objects with local craftsmen. I was inspired by the many patterns found in Mamluk architecture in the City of the Dead. While I normally work mostly with soft textile materials, I now used glass, wood and leather instead to do design explorations; from a flat surface to a 3-dimensional object. Besides creating a new design direction, the Craftastic project has a social character and is co-financed by the Dutch Embassy in Egypt.

Kunstgarage Franx is the organization for professional visual art in Zoetermeer and a catalyst for new connections and debate. I was asked to do the curation / art direction and exhibition design for one of their expos; a great opportunity to use my eye for concept, colour and design in this project too. The work of more than 50 artists is combined with work by recent graduates of the Wood and Furnishings College (HMC) and the Willem de Kooning Academy and numerous design brands in a sparkling end-of-year show titled ‘Maker’s Moments’ and XL Maker’s Shop. The exhibition takes you from the ‘morning’ to the ‘night’ and let you discover that art suits every moment of the day.

‘Get Lost Creatively’

In the video-podcast series ‘Creatief Verdwalen’, Irving Vorster (fashion designer of couture label IRVINX en vodcast creator) talks to inspiring guests from the creative field. In his episode Irving Enroute, he interviews Irene van Ophoven at the Dutch Design Week. This talk can be watched via the YouTube channel of Irving’s inspiring conversation series of Creatief Verdwalen.

Get Set for Dutch Design Week, 22 – 30 October 2022 in Eindhoven!

In a cooperation with MONDiLAB I have developed a new series of statement pieces for modern interiors, with my own interpretation of the Bauhaus story; between applied art and design.

The physical experience and expressiveness of a space is even more important than before, not least because of the time we spend online every day and its influence on us. With my way of working, which again started with a manual process and screen printing, I balance the digital with the canvas of the ‘real’ actual world. Also in this series, I aim to give an interior and a special flair with my strong graphic style. The new collection on show at Dutch Design Week consists of framed velvet wall art, wool carpets and fancy cushions.

You are very much welcome to the wonderful MONDiLAB, the place where professional makers come for innovation in the textile crafts.

Let’s meet in Eindhoven!

Dutch Design is key at Hotel Artemis in Amsterdam, it’s in the DNA of this hotel; d.&a (Design & ARTemis). It is so wonderful that they have asked me to enhance their lobby with my designs. For the temporary exhibition ZOOM IN, I used some works from my Connected Series and made other wall hangings especially for them, connecting the entrance hall with the restaurant area. This presentation shows very well what I can do in terms of hospitality design for other projects as well. Of course, the wall-hangings will be for sale afterwards.

Address Dutch Design Hotel Artemis:

John M. Keynesplein 2, 1066 EP Amsterdam

Open: 24/7

Another nice thing to mention is that I had the opportunity to speak about this project during an event organised by the Dutch Designers’ Association (BNO – Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers) about the use of colour in hospitality interiors.

I am very interested in designing in the most sustainable way possible. I have already worked with the beautiful Piñatex material and a while ago I attended a training course on circular material design by CIRCO – Creating Business through Circular Design. They help activate entrepreneurs and creative professionals to (re)design products, services and business models in order to subsequently conduct circular business. Now, I am very proud to be able to contribute to a CIRCO Track on Roadside Grass. As an external designer I’m committed to this training program and give shape to the circular ambitions of the various participants. Also interested in circular design? Then let me know!

I am very pleased to announce that I will be showing my work at the Masterly – Dutch Pavilion during the Salone del Mobile 2021.

The event will take place 5 – 10 September at Palazzo Francesco Turati in Milan.

For the first time I can present my designs in my ‘home port’ of Rotterdam. I am super happy that from now on my work is shown at Senso’s Concept Gallery. Senso designs innovative, seamless surfaces for floors and walls and my designs for wallpaper and tiles fit wonderful! You can go and see a number of works from my connected series there, including new framed wall art.

Address Concept Gallery:

Oostzeedijk 108, Rotterdam (@ De Achtertuin)

Open: Tuesday – Saturday 10 – 17 h

At GLUE Amsterdam I am teaming up with the label HOT – Home of Treasures. We are showing some great new designs for a modular and flexible wall system with acoustic properties, made of Piñatex (natural textiles made from pineapple leaf fibres), enriched with a repeatable geometric motif, designed by me. The design contrasts beautifully to this organic and sustainable material. The colourful panels can be combined in many different ways; as a single walldeco or combined together in a stunning large playfull piece of wall-art.
